Robinson, one of the largest logistics platforms in the U.S., offers a 2023 forecast that has the average cost of trucking at $1.74 per mile over the summer and then increasing to $1.88 per mile by the end of 2023.
It’s important to note that when considering the average cost per mile to operate a truck, the statistics provided are national averages and calculated with data from owner-operators to large fleets. Each carrier will have a different cost to operate based on several variables. As a quick note, you want to make sure all the loads you accept are profitable. As mentioned above, fuel is one of the biggest expenses in trucking.
